Situation on SK/CZ cross-border profile

Transmission System Operators in the Slovak Republic and Czech Republic: SEPS, a. s., and ČEPS, a. s., inform that due to the finalization of maintenance on the transmission lines operated by SEPS no more significant limitations of CB capacities on the SK/CZ profile should be expected if compared with the previous situation in August 2011.

In the period of large maintenance on lines last August and September the SK/CZ profile capacities had to be limited and, as a follow up, free nominations had to be curtailed. However, such a situation appeared for the first time since the introduction of the common bilateral SK/CZ market region and launch of day-ahead Market Coupling (as of 1 September 2009). Transmission System Operators in the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic: SEPS, a. s., and ČEPS, a. s., announce that due to the finalization of maintenance on several transmission lines operated by SEPS no more significant limitations of CB capacities on the SK/CZ profile should be expected if compared with the previous situation in August 2011.

Free nomination cuts in D-2 were announced in accordance with the adopted rules. Because of suspicion on speculative behavior of some trading entities, on 20 September 2011 full cutting of nominations was applied for the 21st trading hour, leaving the whole of the trading capacity to be used for Market Coupling.

The Slovak and Czech TSOs are fully aware of the necessity to update the existing rules and to implement a new mechanism to be used in case of missing capacities on the profile. For this reason they intend to initiate, without any delay, a meeting with representatives of the Regulatory Offices of the Slovak and of the Czech Republic with the intention to prepare the new version of rules for the year 2012.
