The power system in the territory of the Slovak Republic is managed by the Slovak Electricity Dispatching Centre (SED), which is responsible for its safe and reliable operation. Through ancillary services, SED ensures the real-time balance between electricity generation and consumption and the compensation of system imbalances. The activation of these services results in the delivery of balancing electricity.

SED is superior to the dispatching centres of distribution system operators (ZSD, SSD and VSD) and also performs dispatching control over connected electricity producers, ancillary services providers and direct consumers. At the same time, it cooperates with the dispatching centres of other European system operators within the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E).

Among its key tasks are the continuous monitoring of the condition of transmission facilities, electricity flows, the prevention of congestion and, where necessary, its mitigation. In the event of a system collapse or a blackout-type failure, SED directly manages the activation of measures under the defence plan and the power system restoration plan of the Slovak Republic.

Dispatching control is a continuous process which, in addition to real-time operational control, also includes operational planning and evaluation. The planning and evaluation processes are divided into annual, monthly and daily stages with the aim of optimising the operation of the power system from both technical and economic perspectives.

The excellent performance of dispatchers is also demonstrated by the assessment of regulation quality in a European context. In this ranking, SED regularly achieves top positions.
